I think using gnome libs should theoretically produce more portable binaries
since much more stuff is abstracted out ... and a lot of portability probs are
solved with gnome ... also gnome libs will get way more testing then your own
routines ... so I'd say that using gnome-libs is not just convenience ..
though if your app is very simple ... it might be just ok to use pure gtk ...
