GtkScrolledWindow that only scrolls vertically?

I'm trying to create a window that expands horizontally to fit its
contents, but that is a constant vertical height and has a scrollbar
to move through the contents of the window.  This could be a
GtkScrolledWindow, with the correct undocumented black magic worked on
it.  Does such a widget exist in Gtk+-1.0.4?
