Please remember, the 1.1.x series is still a development
series. If there are problems, we try to make sure
that they are fixed in the next release, but there
is only so fast we can work on this.

In the case of 1.1.9, some files where ommitted that
were necessary to get it to build on systems without
gettext support.

As a work-around, you can install GNU gettext-10.35.
(Available from alpha.gnu.org)

This "po" support is message catalogs for localization. So
you'll eventually be able to put a GTK+ application in front
of your neighbour, and have them be able to use the File
Selection dialog without having to decipher "Directory",
"Cancel" and other such English terms.

(This probably makes GTK+ less cool and trendy than
if everything was in English...)
