GDK basics

Hello everybody,
I need to get documentation about displaying simple color and dynamic
pictures -- I just write programs describing mechanical physics models
such as particeles in various fields. I need to begin, I've read GTK
tutotial, a part of it related to scrible example, but it is only B&W
drawings. Unfornunately GDK documentation is absolutely empty, exception
is in gdk_init & gdk_exit functions.
