Problem solved: I added -fPIC to the CCCDLFLAGS in Makefile
I'm not a programmer, so if someone has an explination, I'd love
to hear it. Confidence in my fix is knowing I did something that
makes sense :)
CCCDLFLAGS = -fpic -fPIC
