Perl/GTK

I recently attempted to compile Gtk-0.3 for perl5.004_04 on a
Sparc 5 running SunOS 5.6 using gcc version 2.8.0

Everything works great till the very end. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

The error text follows:

ld: fatal: too many symbols require `small' PIC references:
have 4535, maximum 2048 -- recompile some modules -K PIC.
make: *** [blib/arch/auto/Gtk/Gtk.so] Error 1
