best widget for a spreadsheet

Howdy, gtk experts!

Semi-rhetorical question:

If you were to write a spreadsheet program in gtk, what kind of
widgets would you use?  

I made a program with a lot of text widgets in a table, but this
leaves something to be desired.  Re-sizing the window looks bad, but
maybe I just wasn't being clever enough in how I set it up.  How would
you suggest?
