Code "my_adjustment->value" gives you the slider value. I suggest to
look GIMP's source code in the problem situations. I have done that
when I needed, for example, set the slider value from the program (not
by sliding the slider with mouse).

One reason why I use GTK is the existence of the good examplecode, the GIMP.
