Hi,
It is good timing to see such a discussion on gtk-i18n-list. I've just sent a
request about the Compose input spec for accented letters on X11
desktop at xorg list
(http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2006-September/017874.html)
which was originated on uim list
(http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/uim/2006-September/001530.html).
I think just setting SCIM as a default input method is not good
choice. Instead, creating a X desktop standard API should be required
as a basis for many existing input method like SCIM, uim, gcin, and so
on, and replace badly designed XIM spec.
Cheers,
