Well, there are two possibilities:

 A) You aren't using the right locale name .. a common problem 
    is to use 'da' instead of 'da_DK'.

 B) Your C library doesn't include the necessary files for
    Danish support.

How to fix either of the above is going to be distribution specific;
I can't help you there, not having ever used Lindows.

The problem isn't GTK+ specific at all, it's just that GTK+
is noiser about this failure than other apps.
