I agree with Olivier wrt how this was done.
I have no problem with gnome-settings-daemon and
gsettings-desktop-schemas dropping support for those settings, but GTK+
itself suddenly not honoring those XSettings anymore should have waited
until GTK 4.0.
gnome-settings-daemon is not the only XSettings manager out there with
awareness of GTK+ settings. Desktop integration of GTK3 apps in other
desktop environments is now suddenly broken with GTK 3.10.
