gnome-canvas and scroll events

so, suppose i submit a patch that makes gnome-canvas forward scroll
events to its items. what would the likely timeframe be for adoption
and release? lets not hear how gnome-canvas is deprecated - there have
been commits to its code several times in the last couple of years to
fix issues, and this particular issue makes it hard to use the canvas
with modern mice - items will simply never receive any scroll events.
this is because when the canvas was written, scroll events didn't
exist (button 4 & 5 were used instead).

i'm happy to do the (small) amount of work involved in this, but if
there is little to no chance of it being released in a timely fashion,
i'm more likely to just fork the canvas and bundle it with ardour. any
opinions from the gatekeepers?
