Time functions

Hello,

Sorry if this is a question that has been answered many times before (I
did spend some time looking before writing this).

The Glib reference manual mentions 'GLib doesn't contain any
time-manipulation functions'. Given that...

1) There is a fairly decent set of date manipulation functions
2) The standard time.h functions have compatibility issues regarding
reentrancy.

..the lack of time-manipulation functions seems a little strange in a
library as mature as Glib.

I was just wondering what the thinking behind this omission (IMO) is?
