We can't punt all the theming issues, because of accessibility. 
Fortunately it appears that we can address the worst issues without much
trouble (and without C API changes), by adding some small capability to
the style parser, and adding a few gtk_settings properties.  

I don't see why adding a color to the enum is an issue at this point,
from a compatibility/freeze viewpoint.
