Handling of <8bit images in gdkpixbuf

I have taken a look at the code of gdkpixbuf today.
I am afraid to not be able to do this before the required time because
it will probably need some changes in gdk as well (if we want to make this clean).
Unfortunately I work in a company whose mission is not directly related to
GTK/Gnome so it will probably have to wait for a later release, execpt if someone
accepts to give me a serious hand (I am not 100% familiar with the GDK internals
yet so I would probably need to ask questions which look elementary to you).		

Maybe I will have the opportunity to hack some code, but don't expect anything
serious from me in that area.
