Also, note that GDBus does not have any requirement for usage on the
same system.
I know Tristan knows this, but probably is worth mentioning that DBus
works over TCP/IP connections as well, though it does so without
authentication — unless you use a peer to peer connection, and just
use DBus as the on-wire protocol, in which case all you need is a
socket anyway.
