error pop-up square?

been working on my project entire day.  almost ready to break for
awhile, but before i do, i need to ask  if regular, plain gtk
has a popup square with [[OK]] or return/enter graphic.  i have
examples but they don't seen to build don my off-the-shelf linux.

yesterday i installed a slew of 'guile'(?) packages.  libraries,
whatever.  but i'd rather keep my dependences to a min.
