bg color for marked days in gtk_calendar

hi all,

how would i set the background color for the marked days in gtk_calendar?

i see a marked_date_color array in the calendar widget but

{
   GdkColor c = {0,40000,0,0};
        
   gtk_calendar_mark_day (calendar, day);
   calendar->marked_date_color[day - 1] = c;
}

does not seem to have any effect.
