Unfortunately, using gobject.emit is not going to help me since the
configure_event callback needs the GDK window to be valid when the
callback is called.

I am not that knowledgeable in the workings of GTK/GDK to know at what
stage does the GDK window of a widget become valid, so I don't know how
to "artificially" cause the configure_event to happen.
