Subtitle extraction via OCR

Hi everyone.

Since Iâm currently working on extracting hardcoded subtitles from some video
files, I needed an application to do this. I quickly found SubRip[0], but it is,
unfortunately, only available for Windows.

I think it would be awesome if there was a seamlessly integrated GTK pendant
usable on GNU/Linux for this. My initial request[1] for this went to
gnome-subtitles since it seems the most appropriate application to implement
this into. Please have a look at that feature request.

I was told that there might be some capable hackers around here which have
experience with OCR. It would be great if one of you would be willing to spend
some time on this. Maybe existing OCR architectures like libgocr could be reused
for this?

Thanks for reading, Mathias
