If you want a usable trace, you need to compile your program with debugging symbols turned on (the "-g" flag to gcc). If you want to follow the trace inside gtk/glib, you'll also need versions of those libraries compiled with debugging enabled -- though you can probably get by without that unless you suspect the bug may be in gtk/glib (possible, but not likely).
