Never mind, I figured out the problem.  I had forgotten that I had set 
the resize increment for the window with 
gtk_window_set_geometry_hints().  Showing/hiding my findbar was causing 
my geometry widget to get resized which in turn, resized itself 
according to the resize increment, which in turn would resize my 
window.
