It's a bit more difficult but you can use gdk_window_set_back_pixmap ()
I don't have a C example for that, but here is a python example, see

thank you, I got a new problem that could a custom image be setted as the widget "GtkIconView"'s background?
Or, Could the widget "GtkIconView" and "GtkScrolledWindow" be changed the background to am image?
