gtk file selection

hi;

   can i directly use the gtk_file_selection API for selection,
deletion, rename and creating folders or by using the API only the
widget visible and i have to give functionality to each button.

i directly used the file selection API, the widget is visible but the
button's are not working neither i can able to select the files.

how to do this;
