You got to load the full widget hierarchy using
GladeXML*
gxml=glade_xml_load_from_file("filename","widget-name","domain");

Then automatically your glade_xml_autoconnect()
connects your functions.

Now if this GladeXML *xml; can be global your stuff
must work.

Please post your code, for a better solution.
