probelm with static linking

Hi..
     I am new to gtk. I was trying to develop an GTK
application on Fedora. When I am trying to do static
linking I am getting an error.

     This is what I'm trying
 gcc -g -static  -o icon icon.c  `pkg-config --cflags
--libs  gtk+-2.0`

   I'm getting the following error..
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgtk-x11-2.0
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
               
   I'm badly stuck at this point. Can anyone help me
