GtkToolbar shadow-type property

Hi, I noticed that most of the GtkToolbar properties are read only,
especially shadow-type that I want to programmatically change to
GTK_SHADOW_NONE without using a gtkrc file entry. Is that possible?
Also, curious why most of the properties for GtkToolbar are read-only?
