Table cell colour

Hi,
I put GtkLabels into the cells of a GtkTable. How do i set the
background colour of individual cells from grey to white?
Setting background colour of GtkLabel doesn't work because
they don't have their own window (faq-6.10).
Is there a simple widget that can just act as a coloured
background for a GtkLabel?
