gtk_widget_set_style wont show effect on fixed ?

style1->bg[GTK_STATE_NORMAL] = color1;   
gtk_widget_set_style (fixed_1, style1);

set_style will work for other widgets but not for
fixed why?
 actually i have "fixed" on a page of notebook, iam
trying to change its color it is not happening.anybody
have idea?.
