Running GTK applns with fb

Hi,
 I had installed the GTK+-2.2 with frame buffer support
 and Kernel also.
 If I compile and run the gtk-demo its working fine, but
 if I run my own simple application, its saying that
 'Can't open display'.
 Is there anything to do while compiling the program ?
 what is the problem there ?
