Re: "UpdateColors failed" message when in 256-color mode

In case anybody has this problem running GTK+ 2.2.1 apps in 256-color mode,
here is a solution: Try setting GTK+ 2.2.1's new GDK_WIN32_MAX_COLORS
environment variable to the number of colors you want GTK+ to use. This number
must be less than the number of colors that are available on your display.

For example, on a 256-color display try GDK_WIN32_MAX_COLORS=16 or
GDK_WIN32_MAX_COLORS=32.

Can Win32 GTK+ 2.2.1 apps operate in 256 color mode?

My apps work fine in Windows 95/98 when the display is set to 16-bit
color depth or higher. When I switch the display to 256 colors
(as on some of our company's older computers) I get "Gdk-WARNING **:
gdkevents-win32.c:1450: UpdateColors failed".

Are there any ways to prevent this error from appearing other than
increasing the color depth?
