Help needed in constructing a [n x m] menu

I am brand new in developing  GUI in gnome/gtk.   I am  trying to construct a
menu with  n row and m column elements, but I couldn't find anything  for  this
purpose (this can be done easily in other API packages).   Is there any function
that i can call to modify  a menu  with a vetor of elements to a  matrix with n
by m  element matrix  ?    In addition,  this menu will be attached to a  given
item in the toolbar.   Can this be done ?
