how to set optionmenu to selection?

Hello,

in my option_menu I have

menu=GTK_OPTION_MENU(lookup_widget(GTK_WIDGET(dialog1), "optionmenu1"))->menu;  
gtk_menu_set_active (GTK_MENU(menu),index);

this does not update the widget.

How can I show the active item in the widget?
