make a cutomized slider inside a gtkbox?

I want to put a slider(handle) into a gtkbox so I can simulate the
GdkPaned. My questions are:
1. How to display a floating bar when you are dragging the slider?
2.What does gtk_paint_slider() do? Can I make use of this function and
how to use it?
