Could this be related to double buffering in GTK+-2.0 ?

The fact that the CPU is taken on the X server machine might be because
the X server has to manage the buffering.
But I noticed, that scrolling CList with GTK 2.0 eats 2 times more CPU
for X, and about 10 times more CPU for application than with GTK 1.2.
As I can understand the 2 times increase for X, the 10 times factor for
application is very strange for me.
