Font rendering

Hi

I am drawing in a pixmap using GDK.

I want to render some text labels on a graph, and dont want any unicode
crud or fancy stuff.

I just want to lable my graph axis with 0 thru 10.

Are my only choices Pango (a bit heavyweight!) or deprecated GDK calls?

One little note: I need cross platform compatability with win32...
