question about gtk_timeout_aadd

Hi all,
        In my multithreaded program,I attemp to call gtk_timeout_add in one thread to do some 
work periodlly.But it confused me.
It seems that gtk_timeout_add itself create a new thread to periodlly  call the function 
specified as its parameter.
Is it true?Aad if so,when calling gtk_timeout_remove will cancel this thread ?
