GTK2: Character conversion problem...

Hi,

I am reading a file from disk and I add it to a GtkTextBuffer. If the
file I am loading is containing some special characters like some danish
characters GtkTextBuffer fails with gtk_utf8_validate.

How can I convert the data read from disk to utf8 ?? I could not find
the answer in the API docs.
