getting selection info

hello,

        two related but seperate questions:

how do I get the currently selected item from an optionmenu?  I can get
the active menuitem using gtk_menu_get_active(), but from that, how do I
determine information like the menu label, so I can tell what was
actually selected?

how do I get the currently selected row(s) from a CLIST or CTREE?
