font selection filter

Any chance of a replacement for the abandoned gtk 1.2 function
gtk_font_selection_dialog_set_filter() in gtk 2.0?  Or is there any
workaround?  The removal of this function seems to me to seriously
limit the functionality of the GTK font selector.
