Inconsistency in gtk_text_widget

Hi All,
i'm facing an inconsistency in gtk_text_widget.
Here is the code.
gtk_text_widget( GTK_WIDGET(textWidget), textWidget->style->font, NULL,
NULL, ptr, -1 ) ;
ptr is a pointer to a string returned by a function.
This call is inconsistent and dumps core.
