GTK2: hidden columns in a TreeView

Hi,

I remember someone on the list talking about the opportunity of having 
"hidden" columns
in a GtkTreeView. This would be great to hide "application specific" 
info to a single column,
but I don't remember how to do that (and even if it is really possible).
Any hint?
