Problem with Pop up messages

Hi Everybody,

I've got this problem wherein i've created a gtk window
and i'm trying to pop up a message dialog after a particular interval of time using a thread.The message pops 
up ONLY after i press a key or move a mouse over the window.why does this happen?
I'm facing the same problem in the application i'm working on.I would be pleased if anybody could help me to 
find a solution to this problem.
