There have been successfull programs written in GTK using threads. I will
name only one for now: gftp (www.gftp.org).

On FreeBSD
cd /usr/ports/ftp/gftp
make
===> gftp-gnome-2.0.8 is forbidden: Insecure temporary files up the wazoo.

Is this fixed in later releases?

I tried

ftp ... gftp-2.0.11...

./configure
...

but

In file included from intl-compat.c:25:
gettextP.h:165: unterminated comment
gettextP.h:20: unterminated `#if' conditional
gmake[2]: *** [intl-compat.o] Error 1
gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/gftp-2.0.11/intl'

So this is not tried on FreeBSD?
