Is there any way to dispatch focus to plugin which does not support xembed

I know gtk2 use a focus proxy to manage to focus in a logical way. It's 
good but this makes me can not integrate old plugin because the plugin 
does not send out focus request while it needs focus. Then the container 
will never forward the key press event to the plugin. So, how can I deal 
with this situation?
