Re: Using a gtk-2.0 theme

I am still using gnome 1.4 I think. I know I am not using 2.0, so
assume I can only have one gtk-engines installed. I further assume that
the version I have installed needs to work with my current env.
I currently am using gtk-engines-0.11-10 part of the RedHat 7.3 distro.

So would the newer gtk-engines be backwards compatible?

Meaning if I install a newer version, will it break other dependencies,
or work fine?

As far as I can tell gtk-engines has relatively little to do with gnome
other than perhaps gnome depends on it. I've got a RH 7.3 that has a
gtk-engines 0.11-10 or whatever it came with installed and I installed
the latest ones from source and all is working OK. I think they are
sufficiently different enough that it won't cause any problems if they
are both installed. I believe they have different installation
directories like $prefix/lib/gtk-2.0. Someone will certainly chime in
if I'm lying, but I don't think I am :)

Good luck,
-Scott
