Hello,
Is there a function in GTK/GDK (under Linux) for explicitly positioning the
cursor (i.e., mouse pointer) at a specific spot in relation to a window?

The SDPGTK C++ library (http://www.k-3d.com) provides extensive
cross-platform (Linux & Win32 GTK+ ports) functionality for placing the
mouse pointer. It's part of a larger group of functionality that can
simulate user input - e.g. click buttons, select menu items, etc., for
use in interactive tutorials.
