Yah, testtreeview works based on about two minutes of random clicking.  There appears
to be some ref-counting problems, though, because i get the following error atexit:

lt-testtreeview (pid:8428): GRuntime-ERROR **: file gobject.c: line 443 (g_object_last_unref): assertion 
failed: (g_hash_table_lookup (debug_objects_ht, object) == NULL)

Can you add this line to your .profile?

  export GRUNTIME_DEBUG=objects
