gdk_leader_window

Hi all, I sent this out once before but to no luck.
What does the gdk_leader_window do?

My specific problem is that I'm writing a dockapp plugin for GAIM using gtk+ the way I found to get a dockapp 
to draw itself as its own icon was to gdk_window_set_icon(gdk_leader_window, my_window);  but this seems to 
only work if the plugin is loaded at the beginning of GAIM's lifetime.  

Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
