[gthumb-list] iptc character set not correctly interpreted?

gthumb 3.4.3
I'm adding geo tags to my photos with gottengeography, but IPTC Character set tag is shown badly by gthumb.
My pc runs ubuntu xenial with utf8 default encoding.
I'm attacching the image and the screenshot.
